The District Energy Operations Process course offers both management and operatives and excellent understanding of the new suite of operations procedures regarding permitry.
Description
This 1.5 day course offers essential training of the District Energy Operations process, as well as the Network Authorisation Process. It allows candidates to gain knowledge of the issue and receipt of permitry on heat network sites (as opposed to traditional utility networks). It also allows candidates to develop their understanding of the assessing and authorising of those permitted to issue and receive those permits.
Learning Outcomes
The District Energy Operations Process course consists of the following areas:
1) The drivers and key aims of a District Energy Permitry System.
2) The District Energy Operational Process roles and responsibilites
3) The assessing and authorising procedure for those roles
4) Activities requiring the use of an Operations Procedure
5) Activities requiring the use of a permit
6) Functions of the Permit to Work system
7) Functions of the Operations Procedure system
8) Auditing and writing procedures
Aims & Objectives
On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:
· Understand the reasons behind the creation of permitry systems and the need to control both the work activity, and the competence of those working on the District Energy Networks
· Be able to describe the procedure to be used for assessing and authorising those who wish to issue or undertake work on the District Energy networks
· Be able to describe the procedure to be used for applying to undertake work and the permitry documentation that should be used to make the application
· Explain the process for authorising the work to go ahead and identifying if additional permitry is required for the works
· Competent persons to be able to complete the relevant pre-start checks and identify permit to work requirements
· Understand the cancellation/deferment and variation procedures
· Understand the completion requirements before returning the network to service.
· Be able to identify issues with completed permitry and successfully complete their own documentation to the required standard.
Mode for Delivery
The course is delivered by one of our fully qualified tutors, who use a variety of theoretical and practical methods, including group exercises, discussions, handouts and interactive PowerPoint.
Examination: each candidate will complete a workbook throughout the session and must successfully complete parts A-D, Authorising Engineers (DE) must also successfully complete Part E. The assessments are open book and will test the candidate’s ability to effectively use the provided procedures to identify the permitry requirements and to complete their own permitry to a high standard.

Intended For
This qualification is essential for any individual, at any level of the company, who is involved in the issue or receipt of permitry relating to District Energy Networks. It particularly applies to candidates who are proposed to become an appointed Responsible Engineer, Authorising Engineer or Competent Person for District Energy Operations.
Prerequisites
There are no set pre-requisites for this course, however the nominating manager Responsible Engineers, Competent Persons (District Energy) and Authorising Engineers (District Energy) should assure themselves that the delegate has the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to supervise and/or carry out physical work on sites in a safe and proper manner.
All candidates must possess the appropriate skills to perform their role; this includes suitable reading and writing abilities.
