The use of Abrasive Wheels is one of the most common activities in the utilities industry, yet it can also be one of the most dangerous. Abrasive Wheels, such as saws and grinders, have the potential to cause many serious health, safety and environmental problems.
Description
Quinn’s Training Services Limited offers this theoretical EUSR course which provides both management and operatives with the essential knowledge and understanding of the safe use, fitting and maintenance of abrasive wheels and machinery in line with current legislation, preventing serious incidents and injury in the future.
The course has a maximum of 12 delegates.
Aims & Objectives
By the end of this programme, the individual will be able to:
- Understand their and their employer’s responsibilities regarding health, safety and environment regulations.
- Understand their roles and responsibilities relating to the use of portable cutting and grinding equipment.
- Know and use suitable PPE with regards to abrasive wheels
- Understand the British and European Marking System of Abrasive Wheels
- Understand the correct methods for inspecting and testing abrasive wheels for damage
- Identify various types of abrasive wheels, their features, the associated environmental and health risks and how to reduce these risks
- Describe the main component parts of abrasive wheels and their functions
- Describe the different methods of storing, handling and transporting Abrasive Wheels safely
- Understand the competence in mounting and securing an abrasive wheel, including the adjustment of work rests and guards
- Know and describe the specific requirements for the use of the Abrasive Wheels categories (Petrol Driven Equipment and Electric/ Battery Operated Equipment)
Benefits Perceived by Participants
EUSR Approval means that the qualification can be added to a delegates EUSR card.

Intended For
This qualification is essential for any individual, at any level, who needs to gain an awareness in the use of abrasive wheels. This course is not designed for those delegates who will actually use cutting equipment as it is awareness only.
Mode for Delivery
The course is delivered by one of our fully qualified tutors, who use a variety of theoretical input, including group exercises, discussions and interactive PowerPoint.
Examination: Each candidate will complete a short, 30-minute multiple choice exam at the end of the course
