Description
The EUSR Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (or SHEA) schemes are an excellent way to provide a uniform approach to health, safety and environmental awareness within your company. The SHEA Telecommunications one-day course is essential training for all operatives who require access to operational sites, both permanent and temporary. It has been developed through careful consultation with the industry to give operatives an excellent understanding of key workplace health, safety and environmental issues.
Learning Outcomes
The scheme consists of 7 modules -6 core and 1 specific to telecommunications industry - which cover the following health, safety and environment learning outcomes:

Aims & Objectives
On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the legal frameworks with regards to health, safety and the environment, as well as their practical application in the workplace setting, including their own personal responsibilities and those of their employer.

Understand key environmental considerations in the workplace, and the employees’ impact on the sustainability of their workplace environment, including how to manage waste and hazardous materials.

Identify and control workplace risks and hazards and understand their own role in preventing them through a range of proactive health and safety behaviours in line with CSCS requirements.

Understand the processes and procedures required to work in the highway; this includes both public and private environments and creating a safe working environment through safe systems of work. Know what to do in the case of an emergency.

Describe the local telecoms cable infrastructure and the way in which it is organised, including types of telecommunications cables and the local access network.

Explain the term ‘occupational health’, identify a range of occupational health hazards within the workplace and be able to minimise their impact.

Understand emergency response behaviours, the role of reporting, inspection and enforcement of health & safety in the workplace. Understand the impact on employee and employer of both poor/improving health and safety in the workplace

Assessment- each assessment criterion will be assessed through an end of module multiple-choice test. Each module test consists of either 4,5 or 6 questions, dependent on the size of the module. Candidates must pass each module to pass the programme and are permitted to get only one incorrect answer per module.
Benefits Perceived by Participants

As this course is affiliated with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), it allows utility workers access to CSCS controlled sites without the need to carry additional, separate cards.

On completion of the course, the candidate will have EUSR registration for SHEA telecommunications for three years from the date of assessment.

There are no pre course requirements for this course.
Onsite Delivery Requirements
A classroom environment with a table and chair for each delegate and room for the tutor to move around. Access to power, a clear wall or screen for presenting and suitable welfare facilities.
